Organization-Alien-station!

Welcome to the theatrical mind of Shelli. To begin todays adventure, you must take a moment and dive into your deep imagination. Imagine yourself in a silver outfit, green skin tone, antennas, a green afro, and webbed feet. Now...can you see yourself? (aren't you cute?)...Ok, now begin reading this "alien" monologue in an "alien" type of voice. Enjoy!:

"Organization? What is that earthling? I do not know these strange words or things you speak of. I am from the far galaxy of "SLACK" my name is "slacker" and am unfamiliar with storage compartments, dusting, shelves, hangers, closet space, and organizing. I like to sing the song Nothing ever happens on Slack all the time. I do not take the time to cook, nor clean, nor do laundry until all other means of clothing are soiled. My full time house partner is named "slackee" and is also unfamiliar with such things...but being such a great fan of your "earth-ways", he at least attempts to fit in to your strange world by occasionaly organizing his side of the sleeping chambers.

We have a dog named "slackyanna". She is very cute and has green fur. Yesterday, our sweet dog decided to go out on a mission into our home dwelling by escaping from her "alien dog kennel". She was mesmerized by the vass amount of findings. Not only did she rip things apart in our living area, she left us two piles of wonderful smelly specimans on the floor. Oh Joy and Rapture.

Well...we are trying so hard to fit into your earthly world of "organization" and "cleanliness", but are having such a hard time. Hopefully our new home dwelling in which we transfer this weekend, will be much more "organized" and "clean".

Well, I hope you enjoyed todays adventure. Remember...cleanliness is next to Godliness. Wait...hold on...I'm sorry. I meant to say: Shelli, remember...clean your house or you will be forever embarrassed when people come over, and you'll be known as the people who don't clean their house.

"I'M A YANKEE DOODLE DANDY...

Yankee doodle do or die...

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...born on the 4th of July"...

Why the "Americana blog"? Well, thats because I'm going to Washington DC!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never been there before (never really wanted to), but this time its practically free...and I'll have a friend or two with me! YIPPEE!!!

My work is sending me off onto another great "business" trip in August, this time to McLean, VA...which is practically 5 seconds from DC. So, I'm taking advantage of this great thing and milking it for all its worth, and staying over for the weekend.

My good friend Karen (and hopefully Sarah too) is joining me in DC on Friday night and we're spending the weekend there...catching the sites, going to the Smithsonian, and maybe trickle on up to Georgetown (where I desperately hope to run into Andrew McCartney on the set of "St. Elmos Fire II". Sorry, inside joke)

Is it wrong for me to NOT want to spend too much time dwelling on American history? I mean, I like being an American and all...and the freedom...and the Purple mountain majesties blah blah blah...but COME ON! We're only a little over 200 years old...AND PRETTY BORING!

Give me the gillatine, the tower of london, the berlin wall, or pompei ANY DAY over Gettisburg..."boring boring boring..."

Maybe its really really cool. Maybe I'll be blown away by the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln memorial. (is it true that Abe Lincolns statue has him making a sign-language "A" and and "L" with his hands? I guess I'll find out...huh?

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" 101...

If you have not seen the new movie yet, and do not want to hear my thoughts on it...DO NOT READ FURTHER!!!

Well, I went on opening night with Stars in my eyes and a hope in my heart. My friend Ellen (see, "Reign of Ellen" in my sidebar) and I were posed for greatness...but,

In a nut shell, I must say that this version of The World of Wonka was WAY more weird and "trippy" than the first one. The oompa-loompas were really freakin' strange and scary...and I'm sorry, but Johnny Depps version of Mr. Wonka came off more like a child molester than a chocolatier. I personally would never let my child ( or myself for that matter ) within' 100 feet of that man. And what was up with the "backstory" of Willy Wonka? It just made him EVEN WORSE! Did anyone else think that the image of Willy as a young child was a bit on the "S&M" side? CREEPY!!!!!!!!

Now...lets take a moment and dwell on the child actors. THEY WERE AMAZING! I far prefer THIS Charlie over the wimpering blonde of the 70's. This child needs a freakin' Oscar for his portrayal of little Charlie Baggins. (It is Baggins...right?) My favorites in order:

1. Charlie...some one give this child a golden statue...not a ticket!
2. Veruca Salt...she was awesome...very bratty
3. Violet Boreguard...I just wanted to smack her for smacking her gum. BRILLIANT!

4. Agustus Gluut...gotta love a fat kid.
5. Mike Teevee (TV)...He wasn't my favorite in the original...unfortunately, still not my favorite. Although, I did like how Tim Burton got his point accross about kids and their video-game addictions and how its really messing with their heads.

As for Charlies family...Well done...Grandpa Joe was still just as sweet and lovable. Grandpa George had a lot more to say this time around though. And...I wonder why they didn't put the dad in the first one...budget?

...and what about the big story line with the "ever lasting gob-stopper" and how Willy Wonka hired a secret agent to temp the winning children with theivery...it wasn't there at all! Was it not in the book? Guess not. I really should read the book sometime.

...and what about the fizzy lifting drink?...I LOVED THAT PART!!!!! Actually...this version of the story ended quite blunt. I liked the mystery and wonder of the original movie. You had no idea how Charlie was going to run the factory, just that he was...as he flew away in the "Wonka-vator". (I'm seeing a great Halloween costume here...Wonka + Darth Vador = "Wonka Vador"...hmmm)

Oh well...thats all for now. What do you think about it????

THE SUMMER/FALL TO ROCK!!

I'm so stinkin' excited about this summer/fall. Its turning out to be great so far! ...and there is so much more to come.

1. I could possibly be going to Washington DC on a business trip in August. That will be lots of fun because I've never been there before.

2. In September, I get to go see ColdPlay in Dallas with my awesome husband Justin and our super cool friend Esther.

3. We're staying in Dallas with my brother and his family. Which will be super great, because I never get to see them...and they are WAY fun!

4. October 1st, my other brother is getting married. This will probably be the biggest / fanciest / most expensive wedding my family has ever seen. I'M SO EXCITED! The ever loving burden as being known as the girl with the most "extravegant" wedding in the family will finally be lifted off of my shoulders and on to his. (...and for those of you who went to my wedding and are right now saying to yourself "Shelli, your wedding was not big AT ALL"...yah...try explaining that to my family whose idea of a great wedding includes four people, an office, and a judge. Well, MOST of the family.)

5. October 28th...drum roll please....U2 IN HOUSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited that I almost pee my pants everytime I think about it! This trip will include my wonderful husband Justins, some of our most favorite people in the world-The Akins, and J's dad and bro.

NOW DOESN'T THAT ALL SOUND AWESOME?????

Plus...this summer has already been lots of fun! Last weekend we went trout fishing with my parents, we are having a yard sale this weekend, and next weekend...we move in to our new home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!

MENTAL VACATION...

If I were a fish in a tank, I would be floating belly up today. If I were a fly on the wall...I would have fallen off by now. If I were Meg Ryan (before the stupid "boxing" movie she just made) I would be having a bad hair day. If I were a manager of a financial institution, I would be falling asleep at my desk and surfing the internet all day. OH WAIT...THAT IS ME!!!!!!!!!!

Yep...I'm totally "out of it" today. Spacey Stacey is my name. For breakfast I had 2 Krispee Kreme donuts and coffee...which sent me into a crazy hyper mode...but 20 minutes later, I could have been sleeping with my eyes open. And now...its only 12:30!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! 4.5 more hours to go!!! Yuck Yuck Yuck!

I'm getting excited about our little "fishin' " trip this weekend. We leave tonight for it. YIPPEE SKIPPEE!!! Although, I must say that I'm a wee skiddish about the map my mom drew me. Not quite sure about that. When there are things like "left at gas station" and "look for big tree"...hmmm...I don't know about this mom. I'm sure we'll get there just fine though.

TTFN!!! (ta tah for now)

Old Maid...Go Fish...

Not only are these the names of some great card games for young little whipper snappers, but it also somes up my thoughts right now. Please, allow me to elaborate...

OLD MAID:
I've always thought of myself as being a relaxed/cool individual, but lately, I must say that I've become a bit of a judgemental old maid!!!

See, last night, Sarah and I were trucking along in The Floyd (my husbands BEAST of a truck) when this kid totally flew into our lane of traffic scaring the POO out of both of us. This led me to a very long train of thought...ending here: KIDS SHOULD NOT DRIVE UNTIL THEY ARE 18 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, if you would have asked me about this 11 years ago, I would have said something like "um hello...I totally am responsible and can, like, totally drive!". PISH POSH!!! No I couldn't! By the age of 18, I had been in 3 wrecks (all my fault), had 2 speeding tickets and hit a freakin' deer which totaled my not so cool car. (well, it obviously was not "totaled" because I still drove it until college. Except at night...NO HEADLIGHTS)

Why do I feel this way? Well, I think that EVERYTHING should be released onto us at 18. If we can vote, be considered an "adult", and technically no longer be our parents "financial burden"...then we should also get our license that year and be allowed to purchase and consume alcohol. Hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss....that might be a hard one to swallow, but my opinion stays the same. My blog...na na na boo boo!

Go Fish:
On a lighter note...I'm excited about this weekend. Justin and I are going trout fishing with my mom and stepdad. It should be lots of fun. I hope I catch a HUGE one!!! woo hoo!!!

NO HUBBY...

Well, my husband got an extremely wild hair up
his tushy yesterday. He is, at this very minute,
driving to Houston Texas to go to a baseball
game with his Dad Tommy and Brother Jason
tonight. (GO ASTROS!)

And...tomorrow, he's coming right back. So,
I'm husbandless for 2 days. (hmm...I'm seeing some
self pampering in my near future!!! AKA...girl time
with some awesome girlfriends...anyone??)

Tempertantrums
and Bottle Rockets...

Well, I did it! I cut off all of my hair? And what was
my first reaction? The biggest tempertantrum that
I have had since I was 3 years old.

First of all, the lady at the Salon (if you can call
"Super Cuts" that) cut it WAY wrong. Then, to
make matters worse....when I tried to fix it, I looked
Aweful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO YES...I CURSED AND CUSSED!!!
I THREW MY HAIR DRYER AND SCREAMED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was SO extremely mad that I think I sent my husband
into shock. Needless to say, I do not like my hair! I wish I
was back in the "hair rut".

On to Bottle Rockets...

Could the City of Fayetteville PLEASE put some type of
restrictions on the fireworks? I MEAN COME ON!!!!!!!
They were still going at 2am!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! And...
to make matters worse, my dog was FREAKING out!...and

....there was a BOTTLE ROCKET IN MY LAWN THIS
MORNING!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who shot fireworks towards my house???? I mean come on!
When I was a kid, if we set them off... we had to clean them up.

GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

The Surreal Life!

Last night, my husband and I felt as if we were in the middle of the "TWILIGHT ZONE". doodee doodee doodee doodee...

Why?...you ask. Well, we bought a house, paid cash for a new entertainment center and bookshelves, and got new couches. OH MY LORD!!!!!!!!!! I didn't even know how to right a check that big when we got the bookshelves / entertainment center. I had to really sit and think about it. BUT.. it was awesome to be able to do that, rather than have to put it on credit. And our couches are interest free and no payments for 2 years...so we'll own them soon aswell. ('cause there is NO WAY that I'm gonna pay 22% interest!!..oh yes, they WILL be paid off before 2 years is up) WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're so excited!!!! Praise GOD from whom all BLESSINGS flow!

...and yes, I finally am going to get my red couches I've always wanted!!!
