DUH!...its by "The Beatles"...

One of my favorite (and quite hysterical) “inside jokes” between Justin and I, is the story behind the song “Dear Prudence” by the Beatles.

About 3 years ago we were at a cool little night spot in Tulsa hearing a pretty cool/mediocre band play some covers. Well…they started “Dear Prudence”. I know this song because I’m a Beatles fan…Justin?...not so much. He respects them and all…but not a CD owner like myself.

…ANYWAY…

The lyrics to the chorus are “…the sun is out, the sky is blue, its beautiful and so are you…dear Prudence.” So, I was singing along, and after a bit into the song, I notice Justin singing along as well. AH…MI AMORE!!!

After the show, Justin and I are driving around town, and he says “I really liked that song they sang called ‘Deep Roots’…I’ve never heard it before.” At this point, I was trying to jog my memory of a song called “Deep Roots”, but was coming up blank. So…I asked him to sing it…

Uh hum…

“The sun is out, the sky is blue, its beautiful and so are you…DEEP ROOTS.”

Deep Roots?...Deep Roots???...where in the world did he get deep roots??

So, trying not to laugh TOO hard at him, I said “its not Deep Roots you dork…its “Dear Prudence”…and I think its from the Beatles”. We went back and forth and back and forth and back and forth about this for DAYS!!!!!!!!! He just would NOT admit that I was right.

So…what do you do when you need to know the name of a Beatles song?...you ask your extreme hippy and patchuli smelling friend Matt. And what did Matt say?...thats right!!!... “Dear Prudence”.

Oh, I love that story. Every once in awhile, we’ll sing “deep roots” just for a good laugh.

I love you SO much Justin. Thank you for being YOU! I love you!

Yes...I know, I took the pictures of me in the snorkel masks off...its because they were just TOO embarrassing. I mean, come on...THEY WERE AWFUL! Someone could have pasted those all over the www. No thanks!

So...Instead, I give you this. A picture from my wedding day. The happiest day of my life. Didn't Justin look so handsome??? And me...I was 20 pounds lighter. OH... how grand! Next month it will be 2 years! Wow...that flew by quick!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY INDIANNA!!!!!!!!

Our (super crazy) puppy Indianna or "Indi" turned 1 yesterday. These pictures should give you a good idea of how it is at our house. She LOVES her Daddy...and well...she LOVES TO BITE her Mommy. Its more of a playful tug...rather than and actuall "chomp".

SHELLI'S BLUSHING!

So, a couple of weeks ago Justin and I went to "Willy D's" (the local piano bar). Oh my goodness...its so fun! They've banned smoking at this particular establishment so its a little more "adult", "non-drunk", and clean. Well...a couple of days before this "outing" was my birthday. So...while at the piano bar, my friends from work (who had invited us there), slipped the piano man a note that said something like "Its Shelli Jones' birthday". So...what did the piano man do?...

HE PULLED ME UP ON STAGE OFCOURSE...AND SANG "LETS GET DRUNK AND SCREW" TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was pretty hilarious. And did I mention that the piano man looked a bit like a person from the bible?

I do hope that we get the chance to get some massages while we're down there. I mean come on...it IS "Spa City USA" (according to the website)

Something fun and random that we'll be able to take part in while down there is...are you ready?...can you stand the intensity?... "The First Ever Third Annual Worlds Shortest St. Patricks Day Parade". Yep...THATS RIGHT!!!!!! And the grand marshall is none other than the "Son-in-law" himself...PAULY SHORE!!!!! Two Blogs in one day! Hooray, Hooraw, Hooray!

You may be asking "Why dearest Shelli...why must one blog twice in one day?" Or not...but I like to think that you are.

Well...its because...

I JUST WON TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE...um...I mean...THE HORSE RACES IN HOT SPRINGS FROM KNWA! w/ free VIP parking and box seats. WOO HOO!!!!!!! (KNWA is the local news station around here for you foreigners.)

Anyway, I've never been to Hot Springs before...so, I'm a tad bit excited. Also...Justin and I have been seriously considering going down there for a weekend get-away for our Anniversary. WELL, WE JUST UPPED THE ANTY! I don't think I spelled "anty", (a gambling term for "heck ya I'm in"), correctly. My apologies.

So...have YOU been to Hot Springs? Where should we stay that is CHEAP, CLEAN, and preferably a continental breakfast???

Also, we just decided last night to go to the Family Life "Weekend To Remember". Its a "couples retreat/communication builder/therapy/fun/get away from others/reason to turn off your cell phone/hear some great Christian speakers/marriage thingy". I'm excited. I've been wanting to go to this and some great couples from our church are going, so I know it must be good. I've heard great things about it.

"THE GOOD OLD DAYS"...

Ok, this list had me laughing so hard, that I just had to put it on my blog:

For the “25 to 40 something ladies”
Oh the good old days...

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

Love's Baby Soft -was the first "real" perfume you ever owned.

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill" because your Mom was sick of braiding your hair. People sometimes thought you were a boy.

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits.

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend and who got to play Farrah Fawcett on Charlie's Angels.

Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie, Annie"
will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the hole day.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry.
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, a member of Durran Durran, or Rick Springfield?"

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You remember getting up super-early to watch Princess Di's Wedding.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called “loom loopers".

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You couldn't ouldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club. Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books (Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.

You wore friendship pinson your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your sticker album!

I'm 28...BOO HISSY!

Well, yesterday, I turned 28.

I'm not quite sure on how to take this. I really don't like the fact that I'm 2 years from 30, but, then again, I'm not really sure I'd still want to be 21...although I feel that way on the inside.

Yesterday, I rushed to the mail box to grab my much antisipated birthday cards (yah right, their was only one)...but instead?...it was an invitation to my highschool 10 year reunion. Its like the world was wanting to say it big and loud...YOU'RE GETTING OLD SHELLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, I'm bound and determined to make this a great year. My "LIFE CHANGE" year!! I'm gonna loose this weight, I'm gonna clean my house, I'm gonna start a regular "quiet time" everyday, I'm gonna love my husband the way he needs to be loved, and we're going to cook more!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited!

UPDATE ON BIRTHDAY 02-02-06: I had dinner with some great friends at a yummy Greek Resturant, and the next night...my daddy took me and Justin out to eat. Yum!!

...and please oh please go to my husbands blog and read about our dogs latest "issue".

peace out homies!
